The development of tarot was influcenced by the Italian Renaissance, Neoplatonism, Gnosticism and the Mystery Religions, Christian Mysticism, Heretical Sects and the Renaissance Art and Sources for the Tarot images, Kabbalah, Alchemy, Numerology, Astrology, and the Art of Memory ... all leading up to a final interpretation of the Tarot cards.
Although the history of the tarot is disputed, what everyone is agreed on is that the Tarot was originally designed to play a game, and was not used for anything other than that until after 1781. However, games can be used as tools for educating. The Tarot deck that most occultists focused on, and shows internal evidence that it follows original Tarot symbolism.
